Psalms Devotions Newsletter

session-class

Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! His mercy endures forever. Let the redeem of the Lord say so.  Psalms 107:1-2. We are taking this time to reflect on all of God's blessings and look forward to what is in store for the next season.

I pray that this newsletter finds you well and hope that Psalms Devotions has been a blessing to you throughout 2023.

2023: The year was good, along with a few technical issues. Temporarily, new newsletter subscriptions have been suspended to upgrade as needed and the newsletter will simply be posted here for anyone interested.

2024 Changes

The study of Psalms and Proverbs is a continuing work as we all continue to mature in the faith. There are 365 sets of verses in the online devotions (one for each day.) More than those original study verses are recorded though. Some of those will be used in 2024. Next year is also a leap year, so there will be a bonus day! Also thinking/praying about adding a bit of background music to the site. (with play/silent switch) Suggestions?

Chaos in the world

I don’t think there has ever been a time in history when Psalm 91 seemed so relevant and needed. Wars and rumors of war surround us (Matt 24) yet we can abide under the Lord’s shadow and be delivered from the pestilence and destruction on the left and right and in the end be satisfied with long life and be shown salvation.

A Little Closer To Home

A type of chaos a bit closer to home sometimes manifests around the holidays of Thanksgiving and Christmas, (Erntedankfest Germany and Europe, Kinrō Kansha no Hi, or Labor Thanksgiving Da. Japan, Bénichon, for our international friends.)

It is widely known that people experience high levels of stress and anxiety during these periods in America and many parts of the world. Unfortunately sometimes…..that stress and friction can come from those we are closest to. It’s easy to get frustrated and lose your peace for any number of reasons. Even if those around us are Christian believers, the pressures of the moment, a clash in personalities or even in beliefs cause the stress levels (and blood pressure) to rise.

What Would David Do?

The Psalmist David was continually harassed by King Saul who was driven by a spirit of jealousy. The King tried to “pin David to a wall” with a spear [1 Samuel 18:10-11]as well as manipulating him into battles with the Philistines hoping that David would be killed.

However, the Bible says that David behaved himself wisely [1 Samuel 18:14] towards the king. David mustered enough courage to look beyond the current circumstances and wait on the Lord instead of acting emotionally (although he had the opportunity on more than one occasion.)

David lived in God’s protection through his obedience. My prayer for you (and myself) is that during this Holiday season we will be able to look beyond the person (act wisely), separate any sinful motivations from the person [Rom. 7:17] and begin to see the bigger picture. I believe this is the way things operate in Jesus’ Kingdom.

You are so valuable to God. His light and salt on this earth! Your gifts/talents are not an accident.

May you walk in His blessing, peace and presence during this season and beyond.
